One Trilogy To Rule Them All: “The Lord Of The Rings” Returns To The Big Screen At Throwback Prices One Trilogy To Rule Them All: “The Lord Of The Rings” Returns To The Big Screen At Throwback Prices

For fans of epic storytelling, unforgettable characters and cinema at its most spectacular, the journey back to Middle-earth begins this month. Ster-Kinekor celebrates the 25th anniversary of the release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy with a special big-screen promotion as part of its popular Throwback Cinema series.

Audiences will once again be able to experience award-winning director Peter Jackson’s landmark fantasy trilogy the way it was meant to be seen – on the big screen – with all tickets priced at just R50 at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas.

The trilogy will be screened on the following dates:

  • From 16 January: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
  • From 30 January: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
  • From 27 February: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Released between 2001 and 2003, The Lord of the Rings trilogy redefined the fantasy genre and set new benchmarks for filmmaking on a global scale. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novels, the three films were shot back-to-back in New Zealand and brought Middle-earth vividly to life through groundbreaking visual effects, meticulously crafted worlds and an ensemble cast led by Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin and Cate Blanchett.

The Fellowship of the Ring introduces audiences to the quest to destroy the One Ring, setting the stage for an epic battle between good and evil. The Two Towers deepens the story with darker themes, larger-scale battles and the unforgettable introduction of Gollum, voiced by Andy Serkis and brought to life through a pioneering motion-capture performance.

The journey reaches its emotional and cinematic climax with The Return of the King, which swept the 2004 Academy Awards with 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Peter Jackson, and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, a record-tying achievement that cemented the trilogy’s place in film history.

More than two decades later, The Lord of the Rings remains a cultural touchstone, celebrated for its timeless themes of friendship, courage and sacrifice, and for proving that fantasy could be both intimate and epic on screen.

Ster-Kinekor’s Throwback Cinema gives movie lovers the chance to revisit iconic films at accessible prices. This anniversary celebration provides the perfect opportunity for longtime fans to return to Middle-earth, or for new audiences to discover the trilogy on the big screen for the first time.

Because great movies such as this trilogy never go out of style, don’t miss your chance to enjoy special moments on the big screen once again.
