Television producers can pitch programmes at the 2023 Silwerskerm Film Festival
The 11th kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival, taking place in Camps Bay between 23 and 26 August 2023, will yet again shine the spotlight on an array of feature film and short film premieres. In an exciting development, six talented short documentary filmmakers will also make their bow, and now, added to the film mix, the festival reaches out to television producers.
Video entertainment creators are invited to submit original proposals for the festival’s brand-new Pitch To Us competition.
Following an intensive selection process, this drive to bring fresh content to television and streaming platforms will allow a handful of producers to impress commissioning editors and other programming decision-makers during in-person pitching sessions at the festival. The Pitch To Us competition encompasses various genre categories: drama series, documentaries, reality and entertainment programmes, and advertiser-sponsored shows.
How does the competition work?
Producers who want to grab the opportunity to possibly see their shows on air following these exclusive face-to-face sessions will find the entry form on the festival’s website. Only proposals entered via the festival’s online platform will be eligible for consideration.
During the first phase of the three-pronged selection process, the M-Net Content Hub commissioning editors overseeing the different genres will sift through all the entries to determine the top fifteen proposals. Thereafter, M-Net’s Content and Channel Heads will choose the top five entries, whose producers will pitch their programme to a group of commissioning editors and other senior decision-makers at the 11th kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival.
Details concerning the elements required for the first-round pitch and the competition’s terms and conditions are available on the website.
The closing date for the Silwerskerm Pitch To Us competition is 7 June 2023.
The news about the Pitch To Us opportunity follows hot on the heels of another festival announcement: the call for entry for 2024’s 12th Silwerskerm Film Festival’s short film and short documentary mentorship projects. While Pitch To Us is aimed at established video entertainment producers, the mentorship project allows newcomers to enter the local industry. The closing date for the mentorship initiative is 8 May 2023, and successful candidates’ film dreams will become a reality at next year’s festival.
