Riaan Benadé brings ‘steam’ to the Afrikaans music industry!
After four years of waiting, singer and songwriter Riaan Benadé is ready to release new music! This follows his debut album Spontaan, which was released in 2020 and made Riaan one of the most successful Afrikaans artists.
Stoom, the second single from Riaan’s long-awaited new album, Die Lot, has just been released and tells how steamy marriage can still be at any age.
Riaan said:
“The song is about how you have to keep your relationship interesting and how you have to let it steam by yourself so that it doesn’t become boring.”
According to Riaan, who co-wrote this song with Paulo Azevedo, his marriage to his wife Melissa contributed to the inspiration for this pop and contemporary song.
Riaan said:
“The song means quite a lot to me and my wife because it is to some extent the way we approach our own marriage and maintain it to a certain standard. It’s also a catchy tune and gives an indication of where the new album is heading.”
“It’s a nice twist on a love song, and I believe it will be played at parties. I hope people can think about my music and at the same time enjoy it.”
A music video for Stoom, filmed at Ons Tuis Emily Hobhouse in Pretoria and the Bronkhorstspruit Dam, is now also available on YouTube. This music video was produced by Eric Graham and Tehan Buys, and Riaan’s wife Melissa also appears in this tongue-in-cheek music video. Actress Edrien Erasmus makes her appearance as the matron.
Riaan said:
“It’s about two elderly people in a nursing home who decide they want to escape to have a picnic. People keep an eye on them, and they want to make sure their marriage is still steamy.”
Riaan’s new album Die Lot, to be released on April 12, consists of ten tracks and includes three collaborations. “Hemel en Hel” with Demi Lee Moore, “Vertrou My” with Marno van der Merwe and Georic Lomas, and “Ken Jy Die Land” with his father Franna Benadé. The latter is a rendition of the well-known FAK song with the same title.

Riaan, without a doubt, considers his first appearance at Afrikaans is Groot in 2022, his opening act for Kip Moore, and his duet with international country star Ian Munsick as one of the biggest highlights of his career. Furthermore, Riaan plans to write a lot more music.
Stoom is now available on all digital streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and YouTube Music. Find the song here.
Die Lot, Riaan’s second album, will be released on April 12.
