Op My Eish!: A press conference, stolen kisses and an emotional farewell

Episode eleven of Op My Eish! started with a press conference that Ruan and the ladies had to handle – something that forms part of the bachelor’s journey every season. Although some of the women were slightly nervous, the questions quickly led to some revealing moments.

The ice was properly broken when a Huisgenoot journalist bluntly asked who had already kissed Ruan. To everyone’s surprise, only Cindy raised her hand – despite the fact that Bejanke and Minette had also shared that moment with him. Even Cindy seemed surprised by the reaction.

Rooi Rose wanted to know what stands out to Ruan in each of the women. His sincere answers made each of them feel special, but the conversation also briefly touched on the conflict between the ladies – something no one was eager to get into. There was a tender moment when Ruan was asked how the process has affected him mentally. “I get emotional because it’s difficult,” he admitted.

After the intense start, the group enjoyed lunch together, where Ruan suggested they play spin the bottle to lighten the mood. The game quickly led to plenty of fun – and a few awkward moments.

The bottle first pointed at Saartjie, and Ruan surprised her with a quick kiss. She playfully responded that she would have preferred a question, as she still had a lot to say. As the game continued, honest questions and spontaneous kisses followed – from Cindy admitting how much she enjoyed the kiss, to a more direct question about the harshest thing she had said about someone else on the show.

The light-hearted atmosphere began to shift as the questions became more personal. Cindy and Charlene’s conversation, in particular, gained depth when Cindy challenged her on appearing contradictory at times, to which Charlene explained that she needs time to process her emotions before verbalising them.

The afternoon took a serious turn when Ruan asked the women whether they would continue the journey with him if he chose them – and each one answered yes without hesitation. Shortly afterwards, he announced that it was time to make a decision, and the tension was palpable.

In the end, Saartjie had to go home, and her departure had an emotional impact on everyone.

I honestly wasn’t shocked, but it’s still an emotional moment,” she said. “You build connections and become used to the experience.” She added that she was able to accept it, as she knew where she and Ruan stood.

Yes, there was definitely a connection, but it was an amicable one,” she explained. “We understood each other well and felt comfortable in each other’s company, but there wasn’t a romantic spark from my side or his.”

She now views the experience differently. “With time and perspective, it feels much lighter,” she said. “In the moment everything is more intense, but now I can look back with gratitude for the experience and everything I learned from it.”

She says she’s grateful for: “The laughter, the deep conversations and the relationships that were built with Ruan as well as lifelong friendships. Those genuine connections are what stand out for me.”

The experience also taught her more about herself. “I learned to trust my intuition even more and to be honest with myself about what I want and deserve,” she said, adding that it helped her step out of her comfort zone and face the unknown.

In the meantime, Saartjie has found love again. “Yes, I found love, and it happened in the most natural way.” She says she is grateful for how everything worked out and describes her relationship as fulfilling and balanced.

When Ruan joined JP to reflect on the day, he confirmed that he already knows who his final top three are. But after episode 11, there are still four women with a shot at winning Ruan’s heart: Minette, Cindy-Lee, Bejanke and Charlene.
