Nina Hastie returns to the Theatre on the Square

Award-winning South African comedian Nina Hastie returns to the stage with Tangents, a bold new stand-up comedy show that dives headfirst into the spiralling, side-quest-filled reality of modern life and a brain that refuses to stay on one topic at a time.

A fast, fearless, and deeply honest 60-minute stand-up set, Tangents is Nina Hastie’s most personal and funniest work to date. Drawing on two decades in South African entertainment, a Netflix special, international creative awards, and a reputation for turning chaos into catharsis, Nina delivers comedy that is sharp, vulnerable, and relentlessly funny.

I wanted to make people laugh hard, feel seen, and leave thinking, ‘Oh good, it’s not just me.’” — Nina Hastie

In Tangents, Nina tackles ADHD detours, romantic misadventures, identity crises, family drama, bad decisions, worse decisions, and all the delightful nonsense of living in South Africa. One moment she is dissecting anxiety, the next she is oversharing about romance, and somehow it all ties together. Or it does not. That is the point. Audiences can expect sharp punchlines, unexpected emotional honesty, and Nina’s signature ability to make people feel seen while doubled over laughing. It is comedy with heart, humour with depth, and storytelling with absolutely no straight line.
