Louise Carver captures love and resilience in new single ‘My Love’

Louise Carver returns with her deeply personal new single My Love in which she delivers a poignant modern love song born from a difficult moment, carrying her signature emotional honesty and powerful songwriting into a new sonic chapter.

Written in the early post-Covid years, My Love was inspired by a deeply personal experience. After watching her partner slowly burn out while working remotely for an American start-up, the couple decided to escape for a much-needed break in Chidenguele.

While the holiday itself was restorative and unforgettable, their return journey took an unexpected turn. Just across the South African border, their car’s locking system was jammed while their passports were being stamped, and thieves made off with her partner’s bag which contained his new laptop, Kindle, and other important belongings.

When they arrived home in Johannesburg and realised what had happened, the emotional toll was clear.

Carver explains

“That afternoon I started writing the bones of My Love, and I kept going until the song was finished.”

The song became both a response and a reassurance of support for someone going through an incredibly difficult time.

“For me, this song is for anyone who has ever carried their partner through a difficult time – whether financial, emotional or physical. I’ve always believed that love is a verb and something you actively do for someone. This song simply says: I see you and everything you do for me… now let me carry you for a while.”

To bring the track to life, Carver once again collaborated with producer Garrick Jones of Audio Militia, whose distinctive production style helped shape the song’s sound.

“I chose to work with Garrick again because of his edgy pop production style and his ability to think outside the box and create something truly special,” says Carver. “The production reminds me of some of my earlier work which was slightly more rock but with an evolved pop edge. Garrick calls it ‘happy/sad’, which I love.”

The result is a compelling blend of vulnerability and uplift, creating a song that captures the emotional complexity of love in uncertain times.

A two-time Billboard #1 artist and one of South Africa’s most beloved singer-songwriters, Carver has built a career defined by emotional depth, powerhouse vocals, and genre-defying success. From her breakthrough hit ‘It Don’t Matter’ at just 17 to international chart-toppers like ‘Play the Game‘ and ‘Sunrise‘, she has remained a dynamic force on both local and global stages.

With multiple SAMA nominations across her discography, her seventh studio album ‘Dark Secrets‘ finally secured her long-overdue SAMA win in 2023. Known for her electrifying live performances and ever-evolving sound, Carver’s 2025 single ‘Crush On You‘ marked a joyful return to the pop arena.

Now, with My Love, she continues that journey and delivers what she calls “a modern love song for a crazy time.”

Fans will also be able to experience Carver live this year as she makes her first-ever appearance at the legendary Splashy Fen Music Festival, which celebrates its 35th anniversary over the Easter weekend in the Southern Drakensberg from 2–6 April 2026. The iconic festival, South Africa’s longest-running music festival, will see Carver join an exciting line-up of local and international artists in one of the country’s most beloved live music settings.

With heartfelt storytelling, a powerful message of resilience, and a sound that balances melancholy with hope, My Love is set to remind listeners why Louise Carver remains one of South Africa’s most enduring musical voices.
