“After I used the word for the first time, she asked God for confirmation — because I was apparently a bit still uncertain when I said it. I then had to leave for work in Port Elizabeth for a few days. After three days of rain, I sent her a voice note that started with me singing: ‘Good morning, my sunshine.’ (Goeiemôre, my sonskyn)
Then came the words: ‘We need to talk.’ I thought she was leaving me — but it turned out to be the complete opposite. She told me the word was ‘sunshine.’
Then she said the most beautiful words I’ve ever heard: ‘Now I know it’s you — I just don’t know if you know it’s me.’”
This moment became the heart of Sonskyn — a song that reminds us that everyone deserves a “sunshine person” in their life.
