Savanna and Showmax are thrilled to announce that internationally acclaimed comedian Eddie Griffin is set to headline the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival taking place from the 5th – 7th of April 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre. This landmark event is set to bring a comedy extravaganza to Johannesburg!
The Laugh Africa Comedy Festival isn’t just about the big names. Over 50 comedians across three diverse genres – English, Vernacular, and Afrikaans – will take the stage. The festival is a melting pot of styles and stories, featuring local favorites like Tumi Morake, Alfred Adriaan, Mashabela, Chris Mapane and many more. And for the first time in South Africa, social media comedy sensations will join the traditional stand-up acts, adding a modern twist to the comedic lineup.
In addition to the versatile lineup, the festival will host a comedy roast of a prominent South African media personality, whose name will be revealed in due course.
Tickets, tickets, and more tickets – the festival has introduced a daily festival pass, allowing attendees access to all shows on their ticketed day. A move that not only provides more bang for buck but innovates the local comedy scene.
Those who can’t make it to Johannesburg will not miss out on the fun as Streaming platform Showmax is set to capture the festival’s magic with a 13-part comedy stand up series and a 90-min roast.
The festival’s tagline, “And Still We Laugh,” encapsulates the festivals mission to offer joy and relief in unpredictable times. Comedy is Africa’s secret weapon – a tool for celebration, resilience, and unity says Stuart Taylor, the festival’s Creative Director and comedy veteran.
