When a Home is so Much More…
Demystifying Design – House & Garden’s South African Designer Showcase launches in Johannesburg for a feast of interior design ideas for creating the perfect home-work-life balance.
Cape Town, 3 June 2021 – Given, how of late, we all seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time inside the four walls of our homes, that now double as workspaces, schools and more, it stands to reason that the growth in interest of how to make these spaces appealing and keep them that way, has grown. Providing South Africans with the opportunity to get first-hand insight as to the trends, tips and know-how, House & Garden magazine have partnered with the Mall of Africa to launch their first South African Designer Showcase.
The event takes place 11 -13 June 2021, at Mall of Africa, with live talks on offer with some of the country’s top interior designers from 12h30 to 13h30. Entrance is free of charge, but tickets must be booked through Quicket as seats are limited. This also assists the organisers with COVID-19 public event compliance.
Many of the talented designers featured within the pages of SA’s leading design magazine, will be on hand to meet the public at the Showcase, along with free-to-attend designer panel discussions and Q&A sessions. On offer for example, House & Garden’s editor-in-chief, Piet Smedy, who will get the inside track from interior designer Donald Nxumalo.
Other featured designers include the likes of Lungile Thabethe, from Glaze Home Décor, known for her ultra-glam room-scapes that are indulgent sensory experiences; Houtlander founders Phillip Hollander and Stephen Wilson, who elevate furniture craftsmanship to an artform, with each piece featuring their signature mix of minimalist style yet intense attention to detail.
Also joining the line-up, the simplicity and craftsmanship of design brand, Lemon, founded by Kevin and Ricky Frankental. Offering a range of furniture, art, and wallpaper, as well as a full interiors service, Lemon’s goal is timeless and inspired design that celebrates the best of home.
Someone who needs very little introduction, is fashion designer Laduma Ngxokolo, whose pioneering Africa-led design aesthetic is grabbing world headlines and a growing international following. On show will be some of his Xhosa-patterned home décor range, which embraces must-have cushions and rugs.
Adding further flair to the event are Mia Widlake from multi-disciplinary design brand, Studio 19, Cindy Malaza from Timeless Opulence, along with the tile and surface solution of trifecta of Graeme Bramley, Ramielle de Jager and Reando Potgieter from Wolkberg Casting Studios,
Rounding out the superb offering and blending abstracted African cultural inspirations with the functionality and look-and-feel of modern materials, technologies, and modern furniture silhouettes, is engineer-turned-furniture-designer Mpho Vackier, from The Urbanative.
