South African Singer-Songwriter, Dan Shaw Shares Her Most Honest Chapter Yet With Let Me Be

South African singer-songwriter Dan Shaw returns with her most personal work yet with her new single, Let Me Be. Born during one of the most vulnerable chapters of her life, the song is a tender reminder that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is walk away.

“I was navigating the ache that comes when you walk away from someone you thought was your forever,” Dan shares. “‘Let Me Be’ is about choosing yourself – even when it hurts – and trusting that healing takes time.”

Raised in Johannesburg and now based in the wild beauty of Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal, Dan draws inspiration from nature, faith, and the courage it takes to be vulnerable. Her earlier tracks “Yahweh” (which went viral on TikTok with over 3 million views), “Wash Over Me“, and “African Christmas” have all resonated with listeners across radio and social platforms, proof that her authenticity connects deeply.

Dan worked with producer Olly Vans (Tasché Burger, BlackByrd, Margot) on the song.

“I had the absolute pleasure of working with Olly on production – he really brought the heartbeat of the song to life. The result is a gentle anthem of self-worth, courage, and rediscovery.”

A storyteller first and foremost, Dan’s sound defies easy categorization. From Afrohouse and Pop to Zulu Gospel, her music always returns to one constant: truth.

“Every song I write is a chapter of my life,” she says. “If it uplifts, if it tells a story, if it hits the soul – I’m in.”

Looking ahead, Dan is preparing to release her six-track EP on December 5, a collection she describes as “honest, soulful, and raw – a journey through healing, self-love, and finding your power again.”

“Music has always been how I breathe,” she adds. “It’s never been something I chose; it’s just always been there.”
