Dan Duminy Confronts Almost-Closure With New Single, Trigger
South African singer-songwriter Dan Duminy steps into 2026 with intention and emotional clarity on his powerful new single, Trigger – a raw, honest exploration of what happens when you think you’ve healed, only to realise some wounds still linger.
“2026 feels like a reset for me,” says Dan. “I’m entering this year more self-aware, more grounded, and more confident in my voice. I’m moving with clarity instead of reaction.”
Written from the perspective of near-closure being abruptly disrupted, the single captures the vulnerability of being pulled back into emotions you believed were long behind you.
“It’s about thinking something was over, only to be emotionally dragged back into it,” Dan explains. “We wanted the song to feel immediate – like you’re standing face-to-face with something you weren’t ready to revisit.”
The single was created alongside Ryan Curtis, Cesar Peralta, and Jordan James, one of Dan’s closest friends – a dynamic that allowed for complete honesty in the room.
“It didn’t feel like a traditional session,” Dan shares. “It felt like a conversation. Having that level of trust made it easier to be vulnerable and let the song lead.”
Releasing Trigger also marks the beginning of a new creative chapter for Dan, one that prioritises emotional transparency.
“This song opens the door to a phase of my music where I’m not hiding behind metaphors or walls. It’s vulnerable, but it feels right, and I think a lot of people will hear themselves in it.”
The single arrives ahead of Dan’s highly anticipated debut EP, Born To Bleed, a project he describes as the most honest work of his career. Born To Bleed is about emotional truth. For a long time, I tried to shut down the part of me that feels deeply. This EP is about embracing vulnerability as strength, not weakness. While a release date for the EP is yet to be announced, Dan confirms it’s coming soon and will unfold intentionally.
“The EP is a journey – from chaos to clarity,” he says. “By the end, there’s growth.”
With Trigger, Dan Duminy sets the tone for a year that will be defined by consistency, self-awareness, and fearless honesty.
