Comic Con has Three Reasons to Take Leave in April
2024 seems to be a year that has its foot on the gas, but Comic Con Cape Town promises fans a chance to disconnect from “the real world” for five days and enjoy the best in pop culture and gaming from 27 April to 1 May at CTICC.
With all eyes fixed on what could be a five-day weekend over the show’s dates, with Wednesday (1 May) being the Workers’ Day public holiday – you could score a five-day weekend by just taking two days off (Monday, 29 April and Tuesday, 30 April).
To add to the excitement of a five-day weekend, this year, Comic Con Cape Town is embracing the spirit of fun and creativity by adding themed events to two days of the festival.
Monday: A Celebration of All Things Spooktacular
On Monday (29 April), Comic Con Cape Town will transform into a haven for fans of horror. Fans are invited to embrace the eerie atmosphere and partake in a variety of thrilling activities, including horror movie screenings, murder mystery games, escape rooms, prosthetic and make-up tutorials, horror-themed panel discussions, and much more.
Carla Massmann, Show Director of Comic Con Cape Town, said:
“There’s something for every ghoul and goblin at the Comic Con Cape Town Horror Celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned horror enthusiast or just looking for a good scare, Monday promises to be a day of spine-tingling excitement. Families are still welcome to the event on this day. The theme promises to celebrate horror as a genre rather than scare fans away. But there might be one or two scary cosplays.”
Tuesday: The Cape’s Biggest Family Pyjama Party
Tuesday will see Comic Con Cape Town teaming up with Ackermans to host the ultimate family-friendly pyjama party. Attendees of all ages are encouraged to get cozy in their favourite character ‘jamies and enjoy a day of comfort and camaraderie. The schedule includes a dedicated PJ character cosplay slot, a dance party with international con DJ – DJ Elliot, family quiz and movie night, and more.
Massmann said:
“We’re excited to bring families together for a day of relaxation and fun. Our Pyjama Party is the perfect opportunity to come out and have some relaxed fun, connect with loved ones, and make some lasting memories.”
Geek Meet and Mingle Event
Both Monday and Tuesday will feature the first-ever Geek Meet and Mingle event, providing attendees with the chance to connect with like-minded individuals in a speed networking setting. Once fans have their ticket to Comic Con Cape Town, they can register to match up here.
Massmann said:
“We understand the importance of community and connection within the geek culture. The Geek Meet and Mingle event aims to foster new friendships and collaborations among attendees.”
Looking ahead to the 2024 Comic Con Cape Town, organisers express excitement at the prospect of welcoming families, friends, and enthusiasts. Collaborations with partners – such as the City of Cape Town, Telkom, and Toyota – aim to enhance the event experience and exceed the expectations of a committed fan base.
Comic Con Cape Town will also feature the Cape Town International Animation Festival, providing a platform for animation and gaming industry professionals and newcomers alike.
Comic Con Cape Town is happening at the CTICC 2, from 27 April to 1 May 2024.
Comic Con Cape Town will run from 9:00 to 18:00 on the Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday (public holiday) of the event, while running from 11:00 to 18:00 on the Monday and Tuesday of the event.
