Three generations under one roof: Mevrou Fourie & Kie brings chaos and comedy to April
Anita Fourie has had enough. She is middle-aged and trapped in a dull marriage. When she decides to divorce her husband, everything unravels – and not only because of the divorce.
After years of tedium and routine, Anita Fourie (Henriëtta Gryffenberg) decides she wants to divorce her husband, the dentist Barend (Deon Coetzee). Her timing, however, is catastrophic: their daughter, Melissa (Luandri Reynders) leaves her husband, Quintin (Arno Greeff), after discovering he was unfaithful. Seeking stability, she moves back home – just as Anita herself is trying to get her life back on track.
Then Anita’s mother, Tina (Elzabé Zietsman), also unexpectedly turns up. She’s been evicted from her retirement home. Suddenly, there are three strong women, a spoilt son in his late twenties, Barry (Luan Jacobs), and a bewildered Barend under one roof in Randburg – causing chaos, conflict and hilarity. A few secrets also come to light.
The cast includes Ilse van Niekerk as Phyllis Steyn, a businesswoman and Anita’s friend, Neels Clasen as handyman Hardus de Ridder, and Liza du Plessis as Barry’s girlfriend, Sherrie.
Henriëtta Gryffenberg returns to the small screen in the title role of the series. She is known for her roles in Sonkring, Dominee Tienie, Swartwater and Binnelanders and is also an award-winning scriptwriter, with, among others, the TV series Dinge van ‘n kind and the feature film Die dekonstruksie van Retta Blom to her name.
Mevrou Fourie & Kie is produced by Duan Wanty, Ingrid Engelbrecht and Philip Nolte of Show/Tell Pictures. This team recently made the series Op Skou, which is available on Showmax. Philip Nolte is the director of Mevrou Fourie & Kie and wrote the script in collaboration with Hélène Truter and Augusta Zietsman.
The programme concept was originally pitched in 2023 at the very first Silwermark during the Silwerskerm Festival.
Mevrou Fourie & Kie starts on Sunday 19 April on kykNET (DStv Channel 144) and will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
