Ard Matthews Unveils His Most Personal Album
South African singer-songwriter Ard Matthews has dropped his latest album, As It Should Be – a body of work that has been dubbed his most personal, honest, and creatively liberating album to date. Best known as the frontman of the iconic band Just Jinjer, Ard’s latest body of work sees him stepping fully into his own voice, crafting a project that is intimate, human, and rooted in gratitude and growth.
Written, produced, and performed entirely by Ard, As It Should Be unfolds as a warm, cinematic journey through love, self-acceptance, and personal expansion.
“This album is me saying thank you – for everything that’s come, everything that’s gone, and everything still on its way,” he shares. “It’s about leaning into what’s real instead of trying to look or sound a certain way.”
Each of the ten tracks is paired with its own organic, home-grown music video, all directed and edited by Ard’s fiancée and creative partner, Tanya Van Graan. Shot in natural light and personal spaces, the videos form a continuous visual narrative that rolled out on YouTube throughout November. Watch here.
“We didn’t want anything polished or artificial,” Ard explains. “We wanted the visuals to feel as human as the songs.”
The new album marks a bold new chapter in Ard’s evolution: a return to vulnerability, gratitude, and unfiltered creative expression.
