Ananya Leaps into the Past with Nostalgic ‘Long Jump’ Music Video
It’s not every day that a music video feels like a memory; but that’s exactly what singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ananya has crafted in her latest visual release for Long Jump.
Filmed in her hometown of Harare, Long Jump is a soulful meditation on the bittersweetness of growing up, and a celebration of the places and people that shape us. With soft, dreamy visuals and emotionally rich cinematography, Ananya transforms the story of her childhood into a universal reflection on nostalgia, identity, and the quiet tension between where we’re from and where we’re headed.
Shot over the course of a single day, the video feels anything but rushed. Each frame is laced with intention: from running barefoot across the same school field where she once played as a child, to a heartwarming cameo by her former drama teacher, who helped cast a younger version of herself for the role.
“It was full-circle in the most emotional way,” Ananya recalls. “Filming that long jump scene with Angel, my 10-year-old mini-me, we just kept laughing. Our DOP even joked, ‘I’m gonna need you to jump a little further than that.’ It was one of the most joyful moments I’ve ever had on set.”
Directed virtually by Eleanor Grace Hann, the filmic quality of the video is intentionally warm, soft, and imperfect, mirroring the very themes the song explores.
“We didn’t want slick or over-produced,” says Ananya. “We wanted raw, real, and deeply human. That meant no special effects, no choreography. Just feeling.”
The song Long Jump itself is an emotional ode to the past: the kind of yearning that lingers in the quiet moments, the childhood memories we carry, and the unshakeable pull of home.
“It’s about the version of you that existed before life got complicated,” she says. “And in a way, it’s a promise not to forget them.”
